Each vehicle is equipped with several different types of lights, each with a unique and important purpose. Some people may not even know all the different lights on a car, but it's important to understand each of your lights, use them properly, and maintain them frequently. Here are the common types of headlights and their uses:
Daytime running lights
Most cars have daytime running lights that automatically turn on when the car is in motion, providing additional visibility to other cars. Usually, you can choose to turn them off if you don't want to turn them on. If available, it can be useful to set the lights to automatic so your car can adjust to the amount of light it can detect. This helps ensure the proper amount of light without constantly monitoring it yourself.
LED bulb

Fog lights

Depending on the thickness, either your low beam or high beam may work better than the other, but your car may also have fog lights that you should turn on. The purpose of fog lights is to make it easier for other drivers to see you, not to improve your own visibility. They are usually located on the car lower than your headlights to be visible below the fog line. They are usually yellow or amber to draw attention to the vehicle. In dense fog, your high beams will bounce back from moisture in the air, making it harder for you to see. Fog lights make you more visible without reducing your own visibility.
HID bulb
Another type of light that can be used for different lights in a car is the HID bulb. Like the aforementioned LED bulbs, HIDs are increasingly used in modern cars. These types of lamps are unique because they don't have a filament like most bulbs. HID bulbs emit light due to the reaction caused by the current emitted by circular bulbs filled with different types of vapors and gases, and the intense beam of light produced by HID bulbs is ideal for use as headlamps. These lights do take a minute to warm up and reach maximum brightness, which can be a detriment to consumers. However, this headlight type is great for giving your car headlights another bright and unique look.
